On Thursday, I had the pleasure of attending the ELLE COLLECTIVE Fashion the Future panel event to celebrate 40 years of London Fashion Week. The event kicked off at the Groucho Club in Soho as we were treated to some free margs and had a chance to mingle with ELLE editors, COLLECTIVE members, and fashion insiders.

ELLE Fashion Features Director, Tamsin O’Connor then led the discussion on the legacy of British fashion and how trailblazer designers such as Alexander McQueen and Harris Reed have left a lasting mark in not only the fashion industry but also on British culture. She was joined by panellists: designer Torisheju Dumi, model and activist Maxim Magnus, buyer Ida Peterson, and ELLE’s Commissioning Editor, Naomi Pike.

All of the panellists gave incredible insights into their early years in the industry and the experiences that shaped where they are today. Torisheju had so many amazing stories of her travels in the likes of Berlin and interning for the likes of Celine. All of this as she recounted, would have not been possible without self-belief. Maxim gave a wonderfully inspiring talk about fostering your own community so that you’re just as invested in your friend’s small business and wanting them to succeed. One of these friends was the renown Harris Reed, who Maxim rushed out to walk in his Fashion Show as the panel was wrapping up.

On the topic of how to navigate Careers in the industry, all had some pearls of wisdom to share. As someone who did not have the opportunity to attend fashion school or complete a fashion degree, it was reassuring to know that fashion school is not the be all end all for making it in the industry. I will definitely be taking away Pike’s advice of overcoming writers block, whereby you should talk it through almost as if teaching a lesson to somebody before opening up your laptop.

We finished the night with a free copy of ELLE’s October Issue which I am very excited to read. Looking forward to the next event!

In case you have been living under a rock, the Espresso Queen, Sabrina Carpenter, released her Taste music video last weekend. While it’s been on blast all over Tik Tok with saucy references being made about her ahem one-month situationship with THAT singer, the music video is actually enriched with horror, camp and cult classic movie references- read below to find your favourite.

1.     Death Becomes Her (1992)

The most frequent movie reference is this dark comedy starring Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep. They have adopted the core plot line of two indestructible women who are supposedly friends fighting to the death over one man. They also pay tribute to the film's Oscar winning visuals including Goldie Hawn’s I have a whole in my stomach scene.

2. Ginger Snaps (2000)

Carpenter being impaled on a white picket fence whilst flipping Ortega the bird in response-a direct reference to the iconic 2000 coming of age werewolf movie, Ginger Snaps.

3. Kill Bill: Volume 1 (2003)

Jenna Ortega cosplays as Elle Driver with the same red cross eye patch, a look first worn by Daryl Hannah in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill Volume 1.

4. The Addams Family Values (1993)

Carpenter refers to iconic blonde fatale, Debbie Jelinsky, actress Joan Cusack’s boa draped character in The Addams family.

5. Psycho (1960)

You couldn’t create a thriller music video without referencing Hitchcock’s iconic movie, Psycho. No better way than with the spine-tingling shower scene.

6. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

Blood, a chainsaw, glaring summer sun and some signature lens flares, otherwise known as a very obvious reference to Tobe Hooper’s The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
