S/S 2025 centred around maximalism, gender fluidity, sustainability, and body empowerment. Designers embraced historical revival and opulence, with exaggerated silhouettes, intricate embellishments, and vintage-inspired fabrics. Themes of escapism and spirituality emerged through ethereal, dreamlike designs and symbolic storytelling. Textural innovation saw unique fabric treatments, from upcycled materials to experimental knits. Many collections made bold social statements on femininity, body autonomy, and queer identity.

A/W 2025 is expected to embrace dark romanticism and gothic elegance, blending moody aesthetics with modern grunge influences. Mythology and folklore-inspired designs will bring rich embroidery, heritage craftsmanship, and a touch of fantasy to the season. Futuristic minimalism will introduce metallics, latex, and AI-driven materials, while gender-fluid tailoring will push androgyny further. Sustainability will evolve, focusing on biodegradable fabrics and zero-waste techniques.

On Tuesday, I was lucky enough to attend the ELLE Collective Panel at the Hearst Magazine headquarters in central London. The ELLE Collective Panel featured ELLE Deputy Editor Lena de Casparis, Social Media Editor Amy Brewster, Art Director Zoya Kaleeva, Contributing Editor Nellie Eden all of whom were hosted by Community Director Shannon Mahanty.

All gave incredible insights into their roles, career journeys, and strategies for navigating the fast-paced media industry. Fo me the key takeaway was how brilliantly they all answered my question around what content to prioritize distributing amidst a time of information overload. When distributing content, it’s good to focus on your audience, curate stories carefully, remembering that the second story could be the best story and lastly, prioritise where you think you can add value.

The final takeaway for me as a budding journalist attempting to make it into the media industry was that persistence leads to opportunities, the more you’re rejected, the more you’re trying. Thriving in this industry not only takes creativity but also adaptability and resilience.

With Autumn/ Winter Couture Week upon us and the Men’s fashion season wrapping up, it’s time to look towards what we can expect for THE upcoming fashion weeks, starting with A/W 25 New York Fashion Week.

New York Fashion Week usually opens and sets the tone for the upcoming season by blending innovation, nostalgia, and cultural commentary. For Spring/Summer 2025, several overarching themes of patriotism, maximalism, sustainability, quiet luxury, gender fluidity, and Y2K nostalgia emerged. This reflected the designers’ responses to current global events, evolving tastes, and creative experimentation happening at that time.

A suite of executive orders and new foreign policies passed by President Trump has already caused significant disrupt in the U.S. So, it would be an understatement to say that this A/W 25 fashion week will have a much more politically charged message. In fact, it would not be surprising if many designers took this opportunity for outright political activism especially when it comes to showcasing gender fluidity on their runways. What will be especially intriguing is whether or not this new wave of conservatism reverts us back to the era defining quiet luxury movement or bring us into a 2010’s esque wave of extreme maximalism.
